I believe it was the father of Strengths Psychology, Don Clifton himself, who said this.
He was trying to emphasize a point that has now become more and more apparent with the help of psychometric tools like the StrengthsFinder. You are unique. To appreciate this fact more, let me give you an idea of how Strengthsfinder can measure your “uniqueness”.
How does Strengthsfinder “work”?
Strengthsfinder measures your inclination towards the 34 themes of talent. Think of this 34 themes as talent categories. If for example you have the Communication theme, then you may have a talent in expressing your thoughts or ideas. It may be in writing, speaking, or any form. Your themes are the beginning of your journey towards strengths as you discover the specific of your talents and their use!
The test will ask you a total of 180 questions timed at 20 seconds each to ensure your top-of-mind reaction. Each question gives you a choice between two phrases that you think would best describe yourself. The test and the wordings were carefully chosen so that you will find it hard to manipulate the test according to your desired results. However, like any psych-analysis survey, your honesty to answer the test is key in the accuracy of the results.
After the test it then ranks the 34 themes according to your answers- according to who you are. You will then see your top 5 themes of talent and an option to unlock all the 34 in order. These top 5 themes shows what your top level reactions’ inclination towards the 34 categories (themes) of talents by Gallup. (view all 34 themes here)
But how unique can I be?
That’s a very good question. Technically, the chances to find another person with the same top 5 themes as yours is 1 in 278,256 people. However, these themes are arranged in order, so the chances of you finding a person sharing your top 5 themes, in the same order as yours is 1 in 33.39 million. That is just your top 5, if you unlock all your 34…that would be a whole new level of uniqueness! These data is according to the permutation results from the Strengthsfinder whitepaper report.
So I have unique combination of themes, so what?
This means your brain processes information very differently from all other human beings around you. Add to that the fact that you have very different upbringing, culture and experiences, and this is a formula for a human being that has a specific purpose in this world! There is something you can do in this world, a mission, a purpose that God has blessed you with. Stop playing someone else’s role in this universe and don’t wait for somebody else to play yours!
There’s something you can do better than
10,000, err..millions of other people…
Understand and accept yourself for who you are and start using your talents to do amazing things that only you can do!
